So, you have decided that you want to play poker Online, and your hunt for the perfect site has begun. But alas, there are literally hundreds of poker sites on the Internet. How do you discriminate between all of these available sites, to find that desired site ? There are several key criteria that you should be aware of, in your quest to find the poker site that is perfect for you. Understanding these criteria, and being able to use them as a basis for comparison, will significantly simplify your selection process:

Free Poker – If you are looking to play online poker for pure recreation, and not for money, ensure that the site you are interested in accommodates “free” players. Most online poker sites do cater to free players.

Software Download vs. Web-based – Most, if not all, online poker sites require you to download their poker client software onto your computer system to run. If you are adverse to downloading such software onto your system, then you might want to check to see if the poker site alternatively has a web-based poker interface, which allows you to play poker on the site from within your browser. Software installs run the potential risk of viruses and/or adware being loaded onto your system (although most of the reputable firms would never do that), but software installs on your computer generally run a lot faster than web-based sessions. Software installations harness the power of your local PC’s CPU, whereas web-based interfaces rely on downloading any screen real estate updates over the Internet during play. This can be slow, particularly, if you are running over a slow internet connection (e.g., a dialup line). Hence, if you are after speed, select local software installations; if you are concerned about your computer’s safety or cannot afford the disk space used by a software installation, select a web-based poker site.

Methods of Deposit/Withdrawal – If you are planning to play poker for money over the Internet, it is very important to consider the methods of deposit and withdrawal that a poker site supports. Many of these sites permit major credit cards to be used, which seem to be the universal deposit mechanism of choice. Others permit the use of bank transfer, ACH transfer, checks, and wire transfer from banks. Most poker sites also support some form of 3rd party eWallets, which provide an intermediary between banking institutions and the poker site itself. The main criteria to look at are: 1) What methods of deposit/withdrawal are supported by the poker site, and how many of these methods are supported by the locale that you live in ?; 2) Is it legal to fund/withdraw to/from a poker site, from the jurisdiction that you are playing in ?; 3) What are the fees associated with the 3rd party eWallet companies that you are able to use, and how reliable are they (this latter question can be researched on some of the poker message forum boards) ?

Locale Restrictions – Some poker sites restrict the playing for money (and even free play sometimes), based on your locale, and the laws governing gambling in your locale. You should check with the laws of your local jurisdiction and check with the poker site, to see if there are any imposed restrictions on play, based on your locale.

Support – You should definitely look at the methods of support that a poker site offers. Poker sites generally provide one (or more) methods of support that include: telephone support, fax support, Email support, and live chat support. The more of these that a poker site offers, the better. For telephone support, check and see if the poker site offers toll-free support from your playing jurisdiction or not.

Game Variety – Depending on your level of poker playing expertise and your interest in variety, it is important to determine which game types the poker site supports. Almost all of the sites offer Texas Holdem, but depending on your level of interest, you should check to see if they offer games like Five and Seven Card Stud, Omaha Poker (and all of its variations), online blackjack (not poker, but often included as a game option), Stud (and its variations), Draw poker, Tournament support, and limit and pot limit games. Tournaments in particular are very popular with online poker sites, and some site tournaments offer very large prize pools.

Bonuses – Most, but not all, of the poker sites offer some form of bonus to the player, when you initially sign up with the site. Each site’s bonus is somewhat different, but of the one’s that offer first time bonus, it is usually predicated on a minimum initial deposit. Many bonuses are also calculated based on the amount of money deposited and spent on the site. Additionally, many sites offer reload bonuses, which are bonuses that are offered to existing customers, beyond their initial deposit bonus, and as an incentive to keep you as a customer.

Graphics and Useability – This is a very important consideration. Every poker site has a different look and feel to it. If you are going to be playing poker for money, it is important that you feel comfortable with the screen graphics and your ability to navigate (via mouse or keyboard clicks) through the poker program. If you feel uncomfortable at all with the poker site, you should definitely not consider playing at it for money. You should always test a poker site out in “free” mode first, before actually considering it for real-money wagering.

Game Features – You should always consider the game features that are available with a given poker site. Game features such as hand history, multiple simultaneous playing windows, player notes, audible and visual indicators, player statistics, connection status indicator, player chat, turbo games, and screen options should always be considered.

Rake – Rake is the amount of the pot that the poker site takes (as part of its fee for doing business), from each hand. You should always be aware of how much rake a poker site takes (compared to another site). Poker sites usually use a Weighted Contribution rake method or an Average Contribution method, when calculating rake. Obviously, the lower the rake, the more money you will take home on hand wins, but this criteria by itself should not dictate which poker site you use, since all of the above factors need to be taken into consideration as well. In summary, the aforementioned criteria should always be used, when deciding which Poker site is best for you. Depending on your preferences, some of these criteria should be given more weight than others. Happy Poker site hunting !!

Team Titan and Sorel Mizzi on a Roll
Submitted on Fri, 2010-05-21 05:25 Sorel Mizzi, who made his name as a monster online poker player and signed with Team Titan at Titan Poker one month ago, has been burning up the poker tables in Europe. Mizzi finished in the money twice recently. European Poker Tour On the European Poker Tour (EPT), Mizzi captured sixth ($190,000) at the Grand Final High Roller event. As we noted in a recent article, the European Poker Tour is considered to be the richest poker tour around, with over a dozen events across the continent and one tourney in the Bahamas. Back in April, Mizzi was signed as the guru of Team Titan. Titan Poker has made it a priority to find new players online and mentor them into champs. When they signed Mizzi last month, he was already considered to be a top player and became the designated captain of the team. World Poker Tour His latest finish in the money was last week at the World Poker Tour Rendez-Vous a Paris. He finished second winning $159,000 in a 25-player, $20,000 buy in. Freddy Deeb took the main prize in the event. Thus far this year Mizzi has won $1,266,960. Watch out if you’re sitting across the green felt from him. Team Titan at Titan Poker has found a winner.

The strategy to shut down Full Tilt Poker stolen from Jack Abramoff’s playbook
This article is a writers political view or opinion and submitted content and does not entirely represent pokerbloggs.com Poker Domain Seizures Part 4 The strategy to shut down Full Tilt Poker stolen from Jack Abramoffs playbook Jack Abramoff Photo Image Jack Abramoff is the most famous lobbyist of all time. Why am I bringing his name up on a poker blog? Well, Ive been doing a serious of articles exposing corruption at the highest levels of Washington DC and Las Vegas: Domain Seizures Part 3Domain Seizures Part 2Domain Seizures Part 1 addendumDomain Seizures Part 1 Unlike most people who are begging for regulation of online poker, Im doing the opposite. I will not beg to government officials to do what I want in privacy of my own home (as long as Im not hurting anyone). The wool is being pulled over the whole online poker community by the NFL, Caesars/Wynn, Fair Play USA, and the PPA. These companies are using the masses of online poker players to beg congress to legalize something that is not illegal in the first place. Eric Holder himself could not say whether it was game of skill or not in front of a senate DOJ over site committee: He is quoted as saying beyond my capabilities and Do you think Phil Ivey is just lucky, he is the worlds greatest poker player? asked Democratic Representative Steve Cohen of Tennessee. I am not sure I know who Phil Ivey is, but I am sure there is some degree of skill that is involved, some degree, I am not a poker player myself, Holder replied. The reason Im bringing up Jack Abramoff and Eric Holder is that they were both lobbyist for major DC firms. They both stifled competition to benefit their clients. In the case of Eric Holder, he went from making $2 million a year for Covington and Burling to $150,000 as Attorney General. And now all of his former clients are benefiting??? Jack went to jail for 3 and 1/2 years and Eric Holder is in one of the highest positions of the US Government. But one could argue that Frank Fahrenkopf (American Gaming Association lobbyist for Caesars) would be more comparable to Jack. Frank and Jack are/were both beloved Republicans with ties to the very top (Bush Family). Both are/were lobbyists that worked for the casino industry. both fought bills prohibiting online gambling and both used influence to stifle competition for their clients, and both funneled money to congress representatives to pass their initiatives. Jack has reevaluated lobbying in his new book Capitol Punishment: The Hard Truth About Washington Corruption From Americas Most Notorious Lobbyist Amazon.com Widgets He writes it continues today, unabated by reform campaigns or public ire at the Congress. Most of these legislators had taken thousands of dollars from my clients and firms, and now they were sitting as impartial judges against me. Washington hypocrisy at its best, I know that, barring a torch and pitchfork uprising, no real changes will occur. the lure of post-public service lobbying employment needs to be eliminated, If you chose to serve in Congress or on a congressional staff, you should be barred for life from working for any company, organization, or association which lobbies the federal government. Jack spent 3 and 1/2 years in jail for fraud, tax evasion and conspiracy to bribe public officials. The only problem is that this sort of thing is going on as we speak. Jack had committed conspiracy to bribe public officials to shut down Indian Casinos. He later would bilk them out of millions to persuade congress to let them open up again. Jack and his partner Michael Scanlon attempted to bilk (Jack would most likely disagree with this term) the Native Americans out of 85 million dollars. He still claims to have done the Indians a favor because of the millions they reaped after his services. The most incredible similarity I found between Jack Abramoff and Michael Scanlons scandal and the online poker seizures is that of Sun Cruz Casinos. This is almost identical to the attack on online poker and specifically Full Tilt Poker. You see, Sun Cruz was the internet poker of the time so to speak. It eluded the regulation of the brick and mortar cartel of casinos in the USA that is funded by Michael Milken. Something had to be done to keep the kleptocracy going, so using their influence in congress, Jack Abramoff used his friends at Americans for Tax Reform to funnel money to Rep. Bob Ney and others to apply pressure to shut down Konstantinos Gus Boulis and his SunCruz Casinos. This is not unlike Covington and Burling attaching bills in the middle of the night to port security bills or using their shill Eric Holder to confiscate online poker domains. In my opinion, American International Center LLC (a company that was set up by Abramoff and Michael Scanlon) is not unlike Fair Play USA. Fair Play USA is a fake grass roots organization or Astro-turf company financed by Caesars Entertainment. They act to influence lawmakers just as Ralph Reed did for Jack Abramoffs benefit. They also ask poker players to call their congressman, write letters, etc etc. So if they were ever exposed as what they are they could say you asked for regulation. Here is one of Fair Play USA principles rovide tools to crack down on unlicensed foreign operators who do not comply with U.S. law; removing U.S. banks as the enforcers under UIGEA and empowering law enforcement to shut down illegal operators. This is simply Caesars paying ex Homeland Security Tom Ridge and Ex FBI Louis J. Freeh to use their buddies to wipe out (or lower the price of) Full Tilt Poker. SunCruz Casinos forced into bankruptcy even though they were highly lucrative business More similarities exist between SunCruz and Full Tilt Pokers shut down. Jack Abramoff was an attorney at Greenberg Traurig and was used to seek a buyer for the troubled SunCruz Casinos. Jeff Ifrah is Full Tilt Poker Attorney and was an attorney at Greenberg Traurig and is helping facilitate deal for buyer for Full Tilt Poker. Jeff is still a shareholder at Greenberg. Instead of keeping his fiduciary duties of getting his client out of trouble, Jack teamed up with a shady character named Adam Kidan. Adam Kidan would be the buyer for SunCruz Casinos if he had the cash. He didnt have all the cash and committed fraud to produce a fake wire transfer of $23 million. One could compare Kidan to Bernard Tapie.Bernard Tapie PhotoBernard Tapie is the shady French character that is looked to as the savior for the Full Tilt Sale. Adam Kidan and Bernard Tapie both have shady past, both didnt have the money on their own, and both are front men. So lets get a little refresher course: Bob Ney = Jon KylAdam Kidan = Bernard TapieCaesars/Wynn/Milken = The MoneyFair Play = Ralph ReedSunCruz / Indian Casinos = Full Tilt PokerJeff Ifrah = Huge billing like Jack had at GreenbergRay Bitar = Konstantinos Gus BoulisAGA Frank J. Fahrenkopf = Jack AbramoffHarry Mason Reid = Tom Delay Adam Kidan Photo Adam Kidan would end up getting stabbed multiple times by Konstantinos Gus Boulis when he tried to push Gus out of the business. Konstantinos Boulis would later be murdered after the attack and subsequent sale falling into disarray. Three members of the Gambino crime family were arrested for the professional hit on Boulis. $250,000 was traced by investigators from Kidan to the mobsters. Kidan claimed the money was for catering and security and investigators believed him. Anthony Moscatiello and fellow hitmen Konstantinos Boulis the owner of SunCruz Casinos and founder of Miami Subs Full Tilt Poker is like a resource rich Indian Reservation with casinos or a profitable International Cruise Line casino multiplied by 10. All of the issues it has with money is a result of the UIGEA which was attached by a lobbyist for the NFL. The NFL has future gambling initiatives and is really influenced by the Rooney family which owns the Steelers and Casinos up and down the east coast. The UIGEA was tailored to the Rooneys for their Horse tracks and Poker Rooms. When Full Tilt Poker aligned with stations casinos, it was a threat to the Caesars/Wynn/NFL cartel on future online gambling. The members of TWO PLUS TWO are going to have to come to realize that they are being used by lobbyist to pressure legislators on bills that will restrict their freedoms and cost them money down the road. Amazon.com Widgets Im saying it now: Two Plus Two is being used just like Focus on Family was to email congress and make phone calls. This will only benefit a future Caesars/Wynn/Milken online gambling monopoly. I believe the whole strategy to shut down Full Tilt Poker was taken directly from Jack Abramoffs lobbyist playbook. I believe he is more relevant than ever. He even admits in his sixty minutes interview that lobbying (in its current form) is bribery and nothing less: 60 Minutes InterviewAbramoff: I think people are under the impression that the corruption only involves somebody handing over a check and getting a favor. And thats not the case. The corruption, the bribery, call it, because ultimately thats what it is. Thats what the whole system is. Stahl: The whole systems bribery? Abramoff: In my view. Im talking about giving a gift to somebody who makes a decision on behalf of the public. At the end of the day, thats really what bribery is. But it is done everyday and it is still being done. The truth is there were very few members who I could even name or could think of who didnt at some level participate in that. So is Jack Abramoff truly for more regulations against lobbyist? Has jail given him time to think? Or, is he simply working some new angle for a return to politics or main stream media? I really dont know but I would like to think he changed while he was in prison and is exposing corruption for the good of the American people. Im going to give him the benefit of doubt unless he proves me wrong. He has since moved out of the country to play but recently said he will no longer be playing online. Instead, hes offered his services as a coach. For this edition of Strategy with Kristy, brought to you by South Point, Bleznick talks about what it takes to be poker professional, beginner pot-limit Omaha strategy, and advice he has for those considering making poker a career. Here is a snippet from the interview: As a no-limit holdem player, I understand when to three-bet preflop, but in pot-limit Omaha, it seems like players are getting in buy-ins so frequently. So I guess my question is, what are you considering when three-betting in pot-limit Omaha? To talk about what you first said about players getting it in by three-betting and four-betting preflop thats honestly because everyone literally just has a gambling problem. Im being serious. Everyone just gambles in Omaha because the edges are so small in any individual hand. If you take eight-nine-ten-jack double-suited and you put it up against ace-ace-two-six with a suit, youre basically a very small dog. When you take into account the blinds and the dead money, youre basically flipping. Lets say a guy is playing with $200,000 in his account and another guy is playing with $20,000. The guy thats three-betting with eight-nine-ten-jack [with $200,000 in his account] is eventually going to bust you because youre flipping and the guy has you covered with his bankroll. As for the three-betting, I think you should be three-betting a lot more when youre deeper. It allows for a lot more play. If you three-bet a guy that has 100 big blinds, and he four-bets you with aces, at the point, youre not even playing poker anymore. Youre just gambling. If you do it when youre really deep, you can actually play poker. These guys that do that and three-bet and four-bet and constantly get it in are literally putting their money in and closing their eyes. Its just stupid, honestly. When I say the games are tough, its because the edges are small. So even if a guy is doing that, hes never in that bad a shape. Its not like in holdem where youre getting it in in a 80/20 or 70/30 situation. Youre getting it in at like 55/45. A lot of people cant overcome that.

Interview with Mike Matusow
by Steve Marzolf Mike Matusow, a card-carrying member of team Full Tilt, has been around the pro poker circuit long enough to earn his nickname as “The Mouth” a few times over. Most recently, he took third in the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star Main Event, pulling in just under $370k…and talking some serious smack in the process. But when we caught up with him, he had an ironic message for players out there: “Calm down.” You almost took it all at Bay 101 – what was that like? I’ve only played three WPTs in two years – one last year and two this year. I went down there and played really hard. I went down there hungry and wanting to win, and I played really well. But I wish I would have caught some cards against the lunatics, the ones who were raising and re-raising every hand. Tell us about that three-bet that took you out. I mean, he was just raising at every button, and I thought I had a pretty good read on him. I’d been re-raising and shoving on him left and right. I shoved on him with 2-9. He didn’t have to call me with K-Q. It was still 25 percent of his stack, even if he’s ahead. Most of the time, I’m going to have a pair or an ace there. I didn’t really mind the call, cause once it got down to three-handed, they were playing really carefully against me. They knew that if they opened too much, I’d just keep shipping on them. So they started folding a little bit and limping, and it looked like there was going to be no way I could get chips – especially as card-dead as I was. So I didn’t mind just shipping on him every time he opened the button. I was looking at his face and how he reacted to his cards. I shipped on him six times before, and he insta-folded all six. So I thought I had a tell on him. Maybe that time I just rushed it. You’ve consistently had good showings at WPT games. Yeah. I don’t play many. I don’t chase the tournament circuit anymore. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a losing proposition. It’s $750,000 a year to play on the tournament circuit, and you’ve gotta finish at least second in one tournament to make any money. You’ve been in the game a long time – what are the biggest changes you’ve seen? I mean, these kids play pretty good, but when it’s a deep-stack tournament, they’ve gotta know when to slow down. We were playing 100 big blinds deep, and they’re going raise, re-raise, re-raise, trying to outplay each other, playing four-handed. I was just hoping to pick up 8-8 or anything, but I didn’t even see a playable hand. I think the best hand I saw was K-10 offsuit. If I’d picked up any hand behind them, I’d have gotten all the chips. It was the greatest spot in the world – I was like in heaven – but then I was looking at 2-7 offsuit for like eight hours. What spurs that aggressive play? They’re all used to playing online where you have to 3-bet and 4-bet all the time to stay alive when the blinds get up there. When you’re playing deep-stacked, you’re supposed to just play solid and pick your spots. But these guys were ridiculous. They were so hyper-aggressive it was a joke. It fit perfect into my style. I had two playable hands in 154 hands, and I finished 3rd. If I’d won the hand I went out on, then I’d have 30 percent of the chips and who knows what happens? Where do you think the game is going long-term? I don’t know – there’s just so many good players. I think if they just want to keep running $100,000 buy-in tournaments, they’ll have everybody broke within a year. I’m not a big fan of those tournaments. Then, I was saying the same thing four years ago about the $10,000 buy-in tournaments. Everybody would have gone broke on those too, if they hadn’t been satelliting so many people in. You’ve been at this a long time – what are the biggest lessons you’ve learned? Everybody glorifies these people who play heads-up and win millions of dollars, but they’re going to lose it, too. Ain’t nobody who’s better than anybody else playing heads-up poker. Poker’s about playing and beating bad players. There’s definitely less bad players now – and there’s a lot of good players. It’s tough to win now; it’s a lot harder to make a living. Lucky for me, I don’t have to depend on it anymore. I wouldn’t be happy if I had to grind and make a living online or even live nowadays. It sure wouldn’t be easy. Have cash games in Vegas gotten tougher, too? The mixed games are still good, but the no-limit games are all dried up, unless you get invited to a house game. Poker has become a showdown contest. That’s all it is. It’s just because everybody tries to outplay each other. When I came up, it wasn’t like that. It was about making correct decisions, playing solid, attacking blinds and weakness…just playing good and solid. Now it’s all about three-betting, four-betting, five…Come on man. Tell me about your nickname – how often do you hit your opponents with the trash talk? Not much anymore. Though I did it down in Bay 101. Because I just got hot and started making hands. When people play bad against me, I talk a lot of shit. I catch some cards, I’ll rub it in their face. At the WPT, I had a hand where the guy raises under the gun, and three people call so I call in the big blind with Qd-4d. Flop comes 2-4-Q. I lead out the pot, and the guy who raised under the gun calls. The two who came in behind fold. The turn card is 7d, and I have queens and fours on the flush draw. I bet $4800, he makes it $11,000 so I move all in. He calls and shows me three sevens. And I said, “You gotta be kidding me.” Then it’s a 3d on the river, and I start screaming: “That’ll teach you to play bad against me, motherfucker. You get what you deserve. You’re an idiot.” Then I start berating him something fierce. I lead out into four people with a Q-4-2 rainbow. What do you think I’m leading out with, complete air? Like two sevens are any good there. What have you been playing lately? I don’t play. I went to Australia and won about a quarter million. Then I went to L.A. and played the cash games there for a couple weeks and won another $250,000 there. Then I went down to Bay 101 and cashed $370k there. So it’s been a good year.

Reflections on the Full Tilt Poker Smear Campaign
published on 09/21/11 at 4:18 pm With all the news coming out about Full Tilt Poker and a so-called Ponzi scheme, I felt the need to say something. First, let me start by saying that Full Tilt Poker is a class organization that has treated this organization and overseas bank accounts fairly throughout the years. Howard Lederer and Jesus Ferguson are honest, trust worthy individuals. Not to mention, Rafe Furst, although he did move to Mexico, I can only say his work with charities and the Bad Beat on Cancer have garnered the utmost respect from me. Second, it is a shame to see the U.S. government stick their noses into something that was good for the poker industry, the nations economy, and an individuals self esteem. The majority of players online are terrible and just give money to the lucky few. But these players kept depositing funds into their accounts, helping my lifestyle with a variety of extravagant needs. So what a player did not know about the inner processes of Full Tilt, did not hurt them. They would never have withdrawn funds in the first place. Third, all these dopes posting about a 400 million dollar hole in Full Tilt Pokers finances, do not know one thing about international finance. 99% of their money is in overseas accounts. To get their money into U.S. accredited bank accounts takes several months, due to the Patriot Act. I believe Mr. Lederer and Mr. Ferguson are just waiting for the funds to go through the proper channels and everyone will be promptly paid. So let us stop slinging the proverbial mud at Full Tilt Poker. We need to let this show trial run its course and in the end, you shall all see that they are innocent of all charges.

Canadian Reigns Supreme in High Roller
Posted by Bradley, September 20, 2011 The Monday night $35,000 Guaranteed carries the highest buy-in on Titan Pokers weekly tournament schedule. Direct buy-ins are $500 + $30, but players can win their seats through a range of qualifier satellite tournaments. The high entry cost doesnt seem to bother players, as last night 117 players joined the event, raising the total prizepool to $58,500. Canadian player YoungSupremacy is no stranger to online poker competition. With over $4.5 million in lifetime winnings, he is currently listed in 29th place on the PocketFives online poker tournament rankings. Going into heads-up play in the $35,000 GP High Roller Monday, he was slightly behind RollerRider in chips. The lead held by RollerRider continued to grow. Things changed when the Canadian player was dealt pocket eights against A T offsuit. RollerRider shoved pre-flop and YoungSupremacy went all-in. His eights held and he took a decisive lead in the tournament. In the final hand, a short while later, YoungSupremacy had pocket sixes which beat the K J of RollerRider. YoungSupremacy won $15,795 for first place, whileRollerRider received $9,360 for finishing second. The prize money won by YoungSupremacy last night was not his biggest cash of all time at Titan Poker. In February 2009, the Canadian player placed second in the $250,000 Guaranteed for a prize of $30,000.
