Fold equity is an advantage that the poker pro creates for himself by betting and raising, rather than just calling, with the intent of making his opponents fold their hands.

Poker Professional Reality
With the huge increase of people playing poker online and in casinos, the thought of becoming a poker professional always enters peoples minds. As appealing as becoming a poker professional might be to you, it is not easy to become a poker pro.

Poker Pros Play Live and Online
Poker played at online poker sites is the way that many professional poker players are playing poker today but it is not the only way. Professional poker players still choose to play at regular land based casinos for their poker action. Some players even do both. Is the game played the same online as it is in local cardrooms?

Poker is one of most popular past-times in many parts of the world, and to help participants learn the basic of the game (for beginners) or to help the participants ‘up’ their game (for those who are through with the basics), various poker books have been written. And the outreach of these books has been quite successful, with many people who are getting into poker nowadays confessing that they were introduced to poker through books.

So popular are these poker books, in fact, that a number of sites entirely dedicated to reviewing them have been coming up in the recent past.

There seems to be concurrence among the reviewers in these sites devoted to reviewing poker books that the best book on poker written in modern times is probably ‘Harrington on Hold ‘Em’ by Dan Harrington and Bill Robertie, which comes in two volumes, namely ‘Harrington on Hold ‘Em’ Volume 1 and 2. Dan Harrington, the author of these books himself is a former WSOP main event champion and a widely recognized authority on poker, and he is assisted in authoring the books by Bill Robertie (who is a former backgammon champion).

Barry Greenstein’s Ace on the River is another great book on poker, and there are some reviewers of poker books who actually place it above Harrington’s on Hold ‘Em. Of course, the critics of Barry Greenstein’s Ace on the River point out that while it is an incontestably great poker book, its is only targeted at advanced players of the game, and a poker beginner (who is also the person most likely to be looking into poker books anyway) might have a difficult time trying to make sense of the information presented in it. Still, Barry Greenstein’s Ace on the River is considered by many as the ultimate guide to professional poker.

Then there is Michael Konik’s aptly named ‘Telling Lies and Getting Paid’ – which many people, especially pros, looking for deeper meaning in their poker find inspiring through its numerous poker stories, which also give the possibility of enhancing one’s strategy, without getting too technical. While not a step by step instructional on poker, ‘Telling Lies and Getting Paid’ is a book anyone who knows what poker is all about will find thoroughly entertaining.

Anthony Holden’s ‘Bid Deal’ is yet another book which warrants a place among the top five best poker books of all times. Originally published in 1990, ‘Big Deal’ is actually Anthony Holden’s personal memoir on life as a professional poker player, Anthony himself having been one of the topmost poker players of the 1990s. Again, while ‘Big Deal’ is definitely not a step by step introduction to poker, it is a book which an experienced poker player can find deeper meaning (as well as entertainment) in, and also a book which a poker beginner can find the next direction to take their game to.

Besides these top 5 best poker books, other books on the subject that are also worth of special mention include Lou Krieger’s ‘Holdem Excellence,’ Matthew Hilger’s ‘Internet Texas Holdem’ (for online poker buffs) and Doyle Brunson’s ‘Super System 2.’

 –

Poker After Dark – Hard to Read (source: launchpoker.com)
All the players at Poker After Dark’s the Cash Game show admitted one thing: Durr was hard to read. In the $100k buy in event Phil Hellmuth, Allen Cunningham, Guy Laliberte, Mike Baxter, and David Peat were playing with a crafty player better known for his… (source: launchpoker.com) – RSS and RSS Feed on Feedzilla.com

WPT’s Fall Boot Camps (source: launchpoker.com)
“Boot camp” is term generally given to the military training that turns a kid, whose greatest challenge in life was getting past the Nightmare level on Halo 2, into a well oiled fighting machine. This type of training usually involves trading one’s locks f… (source: launchpoker.com) – RSS and RSS Feed on Feedzilla.com

As more and more people are hooked to playing online poker, there are also more and more tips, techniques, and strategies in the internet whose purpose is to make one win the game. It is very easy to feel overwhelmed especially if one is a beginner, so here are some online poker tips to make you a guaranteed winner.

To simplify, there are two essential online poker tips to make you a guaranteed winner: (1) you will have to know what it takes to play good online poker; (2) you will have to apply what you know in playing good online poker at all times.

What It Takes to Play Good Online Poker

One of the fundamental online poker tips to make you a guaranteed winner is to know how to play good online poker. Online poker is more of implementing the best strategy than just having the better poker hand. Although poker and gambling itself for this matter is a game of chance, still, one should be able to analyze from the numbers. Online poker is a game of math.

The first among several online poker tips to make you a guaranteed winner is to read literature on the various strategies in playing online poker. Do not ever substitute this with watching poker on the television. You can browse the World Wide Web for this purpose; you will be able to find several resources. You can also log on to various poker sites that also provide you with essential resources to up your winnings.

The most common mistake among poker players, especially those who are just starting to feel the game, is to focus on how to improve their poker hand. Instead, they fail to analyze and realize their strength against other players in the table. To make you a guaranteed winner, from the online poker tips, you should be able to grasp the comparative strength at the poker table.

Consistently Play a Closely Controlled Game

The second from the online poker tips to make you a guaranteed winner is to be able to consistently apply what you have learned in all your games. You must be able to play a closely controlled game. One must take into consideration that in every kind of online poker game that he plays, the strategy may vary, i.e order of the bet, etc. You also have to be patient as winning may come rarely in your first few tries.

Now that you know two most important online poker tips to make you a guaranteed winner, it is up to you to apply these strategies. It will help to remember that playing poker should not be taken very seriously to avoid frustrations. Most of the disappointments, stress, and agony come from taking the game too seriously as if the world is dependent on it.

Just like in any other game of chance, luck plays a major role in playing online poker. Don’t try to conquer your luck in playing. Learn to quit when it is time to.

 –

Playing Aces in Pot-Limit Omaha
Poker strategy is ever changing, and those who adapt best will have long-term success. In this weekly column, PokerNews sits down with the worlds top pros to talk about specific poker concepts. Di Urindanger Dang is one of the most feared…

Download Party Poker Software
To download Party Poker software simply click on the download button and you'll be all set to take advantage of their 400 signup bonus so you can enjoy Texas hold em, the most popular online poker game in the world.
A Simple Sit & Go Poker Strategy
A strong Sit and Go poker strategy is essential for SNG tournaments, especially at rooms like Titan Poker and other large sites with many players. Online poker rooms offer a range of sit n go tournaments, including Texas hold'em, Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo, HORSE, Razz and 7 card stud.

If you are looking for ways to become a more profitable poker player Poker Tools are definitely something to consider. These tools wont make you world champion over night but if you select the right tools and dedicate the necessary hours to studying them you can achieve tremendous improvements to your results.

If you are new to poker don’t jump in and start looking at the different poker tools – start out by reading a few good poker books (these might give you a good start: David Sklansky: “The Theory of Poker” and Ian Taylor + Matthew Hilger: “The Poker Mindset”) and play some free (or low stake) online poker hands. Once you know a little more than the basics of the game it is time to start thinking about which online poker tools can best help you improve.

This series of articles will explain the different poker tool types and teach you how to select the tools that are best suited for your situation.

Series overview:

Part I: An introduction to the subject of Online Poker Tools.
Part II: Classification of the different poker tool types.
Part III: Detailed info about the “must have” poker tools.
Part IV: Detailed info about niche poker tools.

House rules are important. Just as most land based casinos doesn’t allow card counting in Black Jack or the use of electronic devices in the casino many online poker rooms are selective when it comes to the use of poker tools. Pokerstars probably has the most restrictive policy in the business with a long list of banned poker software tools and programs. This article will give you a good idea of the characteristics that are typical for banned software types but to make sure please check the rules of your local poker room.

If you expect to buy a couple of poker tools, install them and then start playing (and winning) much better poker than you are now, you will be disappointed. The best poker tools all demand that you put in the time to learn how to use and understand them. This can be many hours but the better poker tools are definitely worth your time, as you will improve over time.

A word of caution, please do NOT run out and buy 2, 3 or more poker tools after having read this guide. Most of the tools require a lot of focus and concentration in order for you to really benefit and having 2-3 new poker tools on your PC is simply too much. Concentrate on learning all the details of one tool at the time.

The single most important reason to use online poker tools is to improve your skills and thus win more. The good news is that this is entirely possible to achieve the “bad” part is that is takes time. Now please move on to the next part in which you will learn which poker tool type is best for you: Trackers, HUD’s, Online Databases, Calculators, Charts or Poker Robots.
